POLET at Climate breakfast seminar and roundtable on the future of carbon capture and storage
Tsimafei Kazlou shared recent POLET research on the feasibility of carbon capture and storage technologies to Norwegian policymakers and industry representatives at a Climate breakfrast (Klimafrokost) seminar on November 29th in Bergen, Norway. The Climate breakfasts are a seminar series organised by the Norwegian Climate Foundation in close cooperation with researchers, policymakers, and the industry. In its most recent edition, the topic of the seminar was “What will it take for carbon capture and storage to be put into use on a scale that meets the climate targets?”. We discussed the opportunities and challenges around CCS and CDR including high project costs, policy support, and project development from pilot- to full-scale. The seminar was attended by both industry actors and policymakers working with CCS.
To get the seminar started, Lars Ursin (Editor at the Norwegian Climate Foundation) presented a recently published report titled ”Carbon capture and storage and carbon removal: Opportunities and challenges” (original title: “Karbonfangst og -lagring og karbonfjerning: Muligheter og utfordringer”), which is a product of expert knowledge on CCS and CDR and includes an interview from Tsimafei.
Tsimafei Kazlou presented findings from the recently published Nature Climate Change paper on the feasibility of CCS deployment for meeting climate targets. Other presentations focused on the current and future status of CCS technologies and projects in Norway and were followed by a discussion with the Norwegian Liberal Party (see agenda below).
